Cowichan Valley Fall Prevention Month
Did you know that each year, 1 in 3 adults over the age of 65 experiences a fall?

November is Falls Prevention Month, and to shed light on the significant impact falls have on our Cowichan community, the Island Health Cowichan Health & Care Plan, Public Health, and various community organizations are coming together to launch a Falls Prevention public awareness campaign in the region.

Falls can lead to serious injuries and may even be life-altering, but the good news is that many falls can be prevented! There are proactive steps you can take to stay healthy and active. We invite you to explore helpful Fall Prevention materials available on Pathways, and keep an eye out for more information in local newspapers, on the radio, and at your favorite coffee shops. Together, we can create a safer Cowichan for everyone!

Lung Cancer Awareness Month: Supporting Those Impacted by Lung Cancer

November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about lung cancer, the leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Lung cancer can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender, or lifestyle. It is essential to understand the risk factors associated with lung cancer, including smoking, exposure to second-hand smoke, radon gas, and environmental pollutants. Early detection and timely treatment can significantly improve outcomes for individuals diagnosed with lung cancer.
