Cowichan Hospice Palliative Care Services

Provided by Cowichan Valley Hospice Society

Offers skilled emotional support, information & resources to those living with advancing illness, their family and friends, and those grieving the death of a loved one.
Cowichan Hospice support programs are available in person, by phone and through video-conferencing to those living in the Cowichan region from the Malahat to Ladysmith.

Cowichan Hospice Palliative Program: psycho-social support provided by hospice coordinator and volunteers trained in deep listening and palliative issues, is available at home, at Cowichan Hospice community office and Cowichan Hospice House. (As well as in hospital and long-term care facilities as permitted by Island Health pandemic response)

Hospice Palliative Services include::
  • One-to-one emotional support and information for people living with serious illness and their family members as defined by client
  • Advance Care Planning workshops and personal support to start the conversation and develop a plan
  • Lending Library available to the public during office hours, includes information on caregiving, the palliative journey, grief support, and picture books for children
  • Wellness treatments for clients and their caregivers (e.g., reiki and therapeutic touch)
  • Palliative Pain & Symptom Management Clinic & Palliative Team home visits- part of integrated palliative care team
  • Hospice Coordinator at Cowichan District Hospital (weekly) and Cowichan Hospice House (daily) (with volunteer team as permitted by Island Health pandemic response)
