Cowichan Hospice Palliative Care Services

Provided by Cowichan Valley Hospice Society

Offers skilled emotional support, information & resources to those living with advancing illness, their family and friends, and those grieving the death of a loved one.
Cowichan Hospice Society support programs are available in person, by phone and through videoconferencing to those living in the Cowichan region from the Malahat to Ladysmith.

Cowichan Hospice Palliative Program: Psycho-social support is provided by Cowichan Hospice Society coordinators and volunteers trained in deep listening and palliative care, and is available at home, at Cowichan Hospice Society’s community office, in hospital and long-term care facilities, and at Cowichan Hospice House. Cowichan Hospice Society is a part of the integrated Island Health Palliative Care Team.

Hospice Palliative Services include:
  • One-to-one emotional support and information for people living with serious illness and their family members as defined by client
  • Advance Care Planning workshops and personal support to start the conversation and develop a plan
  • Lending Library available to the public during office hours, includes information on caregiving, the palliative journey, grief support, and picture books for children
  • Wellness treatments for clients and their caregivers (e.g., reiki and therapeutic touch)
  • Caregiver support group
  • Hospice Coordinator at Cowichan District Hospital (weekly) and Cowichan
  • Hospice House (daily) (with volunteer team as permitted by Island Health pandemic response)
  • Volunteer team at Cowichan Hospice House
