Nutrition / Dietitian Services
Condition Specific Support, Healthcare Providers, Home Health Care, Pregnancy Care, and Seniors Services
Provided by Interior Health
The dietitians provide nutrition support for patients in the hospital and in the community. Dietitians working in hospitals provide medical nutrition therapy to individuals staying in hospital who are at nutrition risk. This may include providing feeding support through tubes (enteral) or directly into the blood stream (parenteral).
Community Nutritionists are Registered Dietitians who work with community groups, early childhood programs, school districts, organizations, health professionals, educators and local government to support and promote healthy eating. Our work aims to improve access to healthy food, improve people’s food shopping and preparation skills, and promote the social and cultural aspects of eating. We accomplish this through providing consultation on food policy development, supporting the development of new programs and services, and promoting healthy eating initiatives. Community Nutritionists also provide training and resources to support health professionals, Interior Health staff and physicians in providing the public with up to date healthy eating information
Long-term Care Dietitians provide nutrition care to individuals living in a long-term care facility. A Nutrition Care Plan is created for every person. These care plans are reviewed, monitored, and evaluated regularly in response to the changing needs of the person in care. Non-ambulatory patients should be referred to Home Health Dietitian using the Home Health referral form. Ambulatory patients should be referred to Outpatient Nutrition.
All dietitians working across Interior Health are registered members of the College of Dietitians of British Columbia.
