Healthy Care Pregnancy Program

Provided by BC Association of Pregnancy Outreach Programs (BCAPOP)

A pregnancy care program for women who use or have used substances.
The “Healthy Care Pregnancy Program” aims to better support pregnant and newly parenting individuals who use or have used substances in the province, and utilizes formal connections between 10 acute care facilities and 10 BCAPOP Program Members.

The program is focused on women experiencing risks to their health and well-being (e.g. unstable housing, poverty), and involves meeting with the women throughout the pregnancy, walking along side her journey and supporting her access to basic needs, transitions, etc. The program involves:
  • Talking with the women about their needs and pregnancy goals
  • Offering a menu of services that the women can be connected to
  • Going with the women to their appointments
  • Forming a network of people to support the women during their journey
