Various health services provided to indigenous persons who belong to the Cowichan Tribes.
The Hwialusmutul' Community Health Team helps individuals and the community set healthy goals and provide support to achieve these targets. Work undertaken by the team includes:
- Infant and Child Health and Development: Provides immunizations, vision screening, speech and language support, and nutrition support
- Maternal Wellness and Womens Health: Provides clinical services including pregnancy tests, PAP screening, pre and post natal support, breastfeeding support, and pre-term birth study
- Community Programs: Provides water monitoring, liaison with doctors, hospitals, and other health care providers, harm reduction and overdose prevention (Naloxone), outreach to vulnerable and under-housed populations, family cooking program
- Youth and Adult Wellness Programs: Provides communicable disease control, testing for STI, HIV, Hepatitis, TB, immunizations for flu and COVID-19.
Hwialusmutul' Community Health Team is made up of registered nurses, outreach workers, Aboriginal Infant Development professionals, maternal child and health professionals, speech and language pathologist, and project advisors.
