Crisis Response, Community Led (CRCL) - Mobile Support for People in Crisis
Mental Health - Adult & Senior and Mental Health - Child & Youth
Provided by Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA)
If a mental health crisis is occurring, CRCL can dispatch a team of at least two crisis responders. CRCL Crisis Responders may be peer support workers, licensed clinical social workers, paramedics, nurses, or other staff with expertise and professional experience supporting people in crisis. Crisis can look different for everyone. An individual might reach out for help if they are:
- Experiencing grief, panic, or anxiety
- Feeling or acting in ways that are different or distressing
- Experiencing thoughts of self-harm
- Experiencing thoughts of suicide
- Concerned for the wellbeing of someone who may be experiencing a mental health crisis
When an individual reaches out, a CRCL dispatcher will answer and assess the incoming call or text. If the individual is experiencing a mental health crisis that could benefit from in-person support, CRCL will send a team of trained crisis responders to reduce distress, provide safety and support, help with referrals to other services and offer post-crisis follow-up.
CRCL is funded by the Province of BC, developed, and administered by the Canadian Mental Health Association, BC Division (CMHA BC) and delivered by local community- based organizations. Find CRCL in the community nearest you.
