Provides a single access point for individuals seeking adult Mental Health and Substance Use services living in Nanaimo and surrounding areas, as well as access for all ages to the Walk-in Crisis Counselling Clinic
Services Provided
  • Screening and assessment
  • Referrals to the most appropriate service, team or community resource
  • Connection to mental health and substance use services such as counselling, group therapy, withdrawal management (detox) and information about community resources
How to Access Services
  • Available for individuals aged 19+ years old who are living in the Nanaimo (Central Island) area
  • Self-refer by calling to schedule an appointment during the week between 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM with the intake assessment team at 250-739-5710
  • Accepts walk-in referrals from individuals, as well as referrals from clinicians, community agencies and health and social services professionals.
Also Available to ALL Ages:
  • Walk-in Crisis Counselling Clinic (Previously called Crisis Counselling Clinic) offers single session crisis counselling. No appointment is necessary. Services are offered to all ages free of charge
  • Community Outreach Response "COR": This team provides rapid, mobile, community-based response to all age groups including children, youth and families in crisis.
Nanaimo Mental Health and Substance Use is now providing home withdrawal management service through the Substance Use Services outreach (SUSO) team. This service will be available for individuals with Alcohol Use Disorder, Opiate Use Disorder, or Stimulant Use Disorder and is intended to support individuals with mild to moderate withdrawal symptoms and low risk of withdrawal-related complications.

Crisis and Emergency Services: The Community Response Team provides urgent response for adults who may be suicidal or in a psychiatric crisis through the 24-Hour Vancouver Island Crisis Line 1-888-494-3888.

Hours of Operation for Community Outreach Response is Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM - 10:00 PM, and on Weekends from 8:00 AM. - 10:00 PM. Hours of Operation for Walk-in Crisis Counselling Clinic is Monday to Friday,10:00 AM - 5:15 PM.
