Poverty Law Advocate
Advocacy, Financial, Legal, and Services for Seniors
Provided by Cowichan Women Against Violence Society
Provides free and confidential services to people with legal poverty-related issues.
The Community Law Advocacy Program's goal is to ensure fair access to supports/services through information, referrals, support, and one-on-one advocacy in the following areas:
- Access to benefits such as Income Assistance, IA Supplements, PWD and CPP disability benefits, Guaranteed Income Supplement, OAP, CPP, Rental Assistance, and more.
- Tenancy issues including dispute resolution, eviction, rental agreements, damage deposits, rent increases and tenant rights & responsibilities
- Old Age Pension
- Employment Insurance
- Debt including Collection and Harassment
- Assistance in Completing and Submitting Forms
- Assistance in Obtaining Lost or Stolen Identification
- Public Legal Education- Residential School Class Action - Deloitte
- Jordan’s Principle Class Action - Foster Care
- Appealing Denials
- Reconsiderations
- Resources and Referrals
