Community Based Victim Services (CBVS)
Abuse / Neglect, Legal, and Victim Services
Provided by Cowichan Women Against Violence Society
Provides free and confidential assistance to victims of emotional, physical or sexualized abuse and/or violence.
Community Based Victim Services (CBVS) workers can provide information about the justice system and safety planning, practical help, emotional support and, where appropriate, referrals to other programs. Self-referrals accepted.
Victim Services Workers can provide emotional support for survivors and help them create a plan best suited to their strengths in coping with challenges. They can also help you gain a better understanding of the criminal justice system as it relates to your situation. They work with survivors to ensure there is a foundation of knowledge and practical tools so individuals can feel supported along the entire process in seeking justice or healing.
CBVS can help with:
- Educating the Dynamics of Abuse
- Assistance to Hospital and RCMP Reporting
- Developing Safety Plans
- Assistance with Criminal Justice Applications
- Support with Victim Impact Statement
- Support in Court and with Court Procedures
- Support When Meeting Crown Counsel and Explanation of Justice System Representative Roles
